Posting some items again.

I had written this post earlier only to have it lost when Multiply headquarters decided to do some system maintenance just when I was submitting it and caused me to lose everything I had written.  So after shaking off the frustration here it goes again a few hours later.

I suppose some of you have noticed that I have posted more videos contrary to my previous post stating that I would not be.  Well, I have relented for a couple of reasons.  First I had discovered (or rediscovered) a decent format in which to create the videos in good quality while meeting the time and file size constraints for Multiply and I was then itching to test it out.  Secondly, I had initially intended to simply move or post my videos over onto my Windows Live Skydrive.  Windows Live Skydrive is basically 5Gigs of online storage space (or effectively 5Gigs of online hard drive space) to which anyone with a hotmail or window live account has access.  Just check it out here:  http://skydrive.live.com/.   Anyway, I was going to place my videos there however they have a 50Meg file size limit themselves which renders it useless for any real practical video posting as well (as far as I'm concerned and for the quality video I prefer).  So, basically I figured I would post whatever I felt like on Multiply and then If someone feels like it they can check my public Skydrive video folders to see if they can download the videos from there.  If they are not there you can ask me to post or send them and I'll see what I can do.  So basically that's it for now.

Oh ya, I am finally posting Bobby Reeves' Army Graduation today as I was able to quickly rip the video from the DVD.  It's not as good quality of a post on Multiply as I would like or as it would have been if I was working with the original raw AVI files of the video, but it's still pretty good and at least it's finally on there.

Multiply becomes a pay site.

Recently Multiply.com instituted their new "Multiply Premium". 

With Multiply Premium they offer a greater amount of web space to store photos and videos as well as larger video file sizes, etc.  However, on the other side of the coin, the regular Multiply users that have been on this site for years are loosing features.  For example:  While you can still upload videos, photos, and music, your viewers and/or contacts can no longer download them.  You can still look at and listen to them on the site, but you can no longer download them.  For me this renders virtually everything but the recipe section useless on Multiply.  I preferred to make my videos and photos available for family and friends to access and download.  I do not see any reason to pay to share my videos or photos with my family and friends on Multiply when I can simply find another means to share the same for free.

So, I assume that I will be finding another location to place my photos and videos for this purpose.  I do not know when but, at some point and I will not be placing anything else on this site except recipes, that is if I continue to use it at all.  At which time I will probably just rename it "Kalon's Recipe Page" at least until they get it in their heads to start charging for that.

I will also no longer promote Multiply to anyone else or on any other sites as Multiply no longer has any advantages compared to the use of other sites and therefore I no longer have any reason to suggest it to anyone.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.  Not that many people that I had as contacts actually stuck with Multiply, but it was useful for a little while.

WASHINGTON — While Americans enjoy the traditional summer kick-off weekend with vacations, backyard barbecues, pool openings and picnics, the White House Commission on Remembrance is asking them to take a moment on Memorial Day to remember the true meaning of the holiday.

The National Moment of Remembrance was created “to provide a time of remembrance for America’s fallen and to make a commitment to give something back to our country in their memory,” according to the White House Commission of Remembrance Web site. The moment gives Americans a way to “participate in an act of national unity and demonstrate gratitude and respect for those who died for freedom since the founding of our nation.”

Congress voted in December 2000 to set aside 3 p.m. on Memorial Day as the National Moment of Remembrance.

“The time 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying their freedoms on the national holiday,” the site explains.

According to a Gallup poll, only 28 percent of Americans understand the true meaning of Memorial Day, and the White House Commission on Remembrance is working to underscore the holiday’s intent, officials said.

Carmella LaSpada, director of the White House Commission on Remembrance, said she first noticed there was a problem when she was asked some children on a Capitol tour what the meaning of Memorial Day was and they answered that it was the day the pools opened.

Memorial Day, which began after the Civil War, is observed on the last Monday of May and has also been known as Decoration Day, a day when people went out to leave flowers or patriotic items on the graves of fallen troops.

Though it’s appropriate and encouraged for people to observe the moment privately, group observances are planned nationwide. In addition, Major League Baseball games are expected to pause, train whistles will blow, radio stations will play “Taps,” and bells will ring around the nation in observance of the Moment of Remembrance.
